Catch up on Brett Goulds interview with Ticket Arena ahead of his set this Friday:

A house producer at the height of his powers, Brett Gould has only been getting better since bursting onto the scene over five years ago, earning himself releases on the likes of Snatch! Records, Whartone and Definition:Music. Gathering the support of big names like Claude VonStroke, Lee Foss and Solardo along the way, Gould has been steadily rising through the ranks, and so we thought we’d catch up with him ahead of a show in Leeds at the start of March.

Hey Brett, hope you’re good? Good to have you back in Leeds next month, what can we expect from your set?
Yeah, I’m very well thanks.  I’ll be spinning some dirty house bangers mixed with hypnotic grooves, going through some of my own recent productions sprinkled with some newer and older club classics.

The Teatro nights have a reputation of being crazy parties, are you looking forward to getting stuck in with the theatrics again?
I’m buzzing for it! Last time was awesome as the crowd were not only reacting to the music but they were reacting to the theatrical side, it’s great fun creating and watching the reactions.

What memories do you have of playing and partying in Leeds? Do you feel it has a thriving night life?
Leeds has always been known to be a buzzing place and everyone is cool, so, it’s good vibes all the way! I came to the Prism party just over a year ago and saw Hot Since 82 and Leftwing & Kody play - That was messy!

You’ll be playing alongside Mat Joe, Mark Jenkyns and Jhonsson, like yourself they’ve all been smashing it as of late, which of their records would you recommend to people that perhaps haven’t heard them before
Yeah what a sick line up. Funnily enough the first record I ever played at Teatro in Leeds was by Mat Joe called ‘Love Stream,’ it’s a great feel good tune, it has a wicked groove and the vocals pull you in. Mark Jenkyns’ big one last year was on Jamie Jones’ label Hot Trax. It was called ‘Sirens’ ft Mizbee. Jhonsson’s biggest one for me was his remix of Bontan called ’33 45’ on MadTech. If you search for these you’ll recognise them straight away, they’re club anthems!

You actually have plenty going on yourself on the music front, tell us about your Glasgow Underground EP, it’s out on Friday (23rd) – what have the reactions been so far?
It’s been exceptional! Monki played it on Radio 1 last year before it was signed so I knew I was on to a winner. Everyone seems to be on it from Steve Lawler, Mark Knight, De La Swing, Danny Howard, Pirupa and again Monki played it this weekend on Radio 1. It’s a double A track so ‘Mess with the Freak’ is released to buy on Beatport and ‘Hurry Up’ is out on Traxsource.

‘Mess with the Freak’ and ‘Hurry Up’ (taken from the Glasgow Underground EP) are both set to get any dancefloor moving, can we expect to hear them at Teatro? Do you tend to include a lot of your own original productions in sets?
Yeah, I know my own records inside out so will usually play at least 4 or 5 in my set. Sometimes to road test and then there’s a few that the crowd expect to hear.

Do you have any other upcoming releases or tour dates to tell us about?
Teatro is monthly for me. I’m off to play Luv Rhythm in Nottingham at the end of the month and just sorting some London dates now as we speak. I have signed an EP to 303 Lovers, I’m remixing a Paolo Martini track for his label and I have just finished something for Idris Elba and his label 7Wallace. Huxley is on the remix there so can’t wait to hear that! It’s looking to be big and there seems to be a buzz about the tracks already!

Finally, Brett - what are you three favourite records outside of dance music?
Massive Attack – Unfinished Symphony
Michael Jackson – Thriller
The Temptations – Papa Was A Rollin Stone
