Shoppers in Leeds are in for a surprise as a life-sized Tyrannosaurus-Rex celebrates Yorkshire Day in style.

The 3-tonne predator, which is on display at Trinity Leeds, has become a ‘Tyke-Rex’ for the day, donning a 1.5 metre Yorkshire flat cap to mark the occasion.

The dinosaur – which is the largest animatronic T-Rex in the UK – is free to visit and is on display at Trinity Leeds until September 2nd.

David Maddison, General Manager at Trinity Leeds, said: “It’s been an honour to host the world’s first ‘Tyke-Rex’ here at Trinity Leeds. Yorkshire Day is all about celebrating God’s Own County and we hope this super-sized surprise has put a smile on shoppers’ faces.”

Visitors can also snap Yorkshire Day selfies with the ‘Tyke-Rex’ and share it on social media for the chance to win a prize.

The T-Rex, which roars and moves its arms, tail and head, is being supported by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District) and Trinity Leeds in conjunction with Child Friendly Leeds.
