BE LGBTQ R'n'B with edges. Best of 2017 and out in 2018 💿 🎶

Now that 2017 is just a memory we thought we’d give you a roundup of some of our fav tracks.

Beyoncé for J Balvin’s ‘Mi Gente Remix’, DJ Khaled’s ‘Shining’ and bagging the UK’s Christmas No1 duetting with Ed Sheeran. Rihanna for DJ Khaled’s ‘Wild Thought’s’, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Loyalty’ and N.E.R.D’s ‘Lemon’. Queen B and Princess Fenty purely featured on these tracks yet still managed to run tings for most of the year. Will this continue via Coachella etc in 2018, highly likely!

Big Shaq - Man’s Not Hot. Michael Dapaah aka Big Shaq has created one of the most comically cool tracks of the year. Scenario = guy in a club + super thick jumper/puffa + wall dancing = 😊. It’s a total joy playing this and seeing everyone go “pap, pap, ka,ka,ka,ka!”

Jorja Smith & Preditah - On My Mind. After featuring on Drake’s album and doing her own stuff independently the 20-year-old concluded a positive year by dropping this heavy & fabulous R’n’B/Garage song. She’s also just won the Brits critics’ choice award so watch her star continue to rise in 2018.

Ru Paul – Call Me Mother. Wherever I play this song people always say, I love this, who is this? Ru digs deep with some vocal rapping and big beats on this track which was made for fun, fierceness and being in Vogue.

Gorgan City Feat Naations - Real Life. Power pop via a great IRL chorus, 90s house piano and an 808 beat. It sounds like such a big hit but didn’t quite make it. Regardless the boys smashed it and their Kingdom tour arrives in Leeds in March.

Ledisi - High. For all Neo Souler’s that love Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo etc this is the one! Ledisi’s epic vocals, lyrics and Trap & B beat have rightly earnt her a 2018 Best R&B Performance Grammy nomination.

Chris Brown - Questions. Sampling Kevin Lyttle’s ‘Turn Me On’ classic to great effect and dare we say making it much slicker. Chris must have shortened this track to make it easy to pull up in the club. The standout cut from his latest album ‘Heart Break On A Full Moon’.

Miguel - Told You So & Pineapple Skies. Bringing superb MJ/ Prince swag and funk in equal measure, I’ve played them back to back in a set. Both cuts along with ‘Come Through & Chill’ can be found on his new album ‘War & Leisure’.

Jessie Ware - Midnight. This track feels like it’s channelling Mary J Blige’s ‘Still Mary’ which samples Elton John’s ‘Bennie and the Jets’, pure vibes are created. If you want it more up-tempo get involved with the equally great Goldie Remix.

Out In 2018

Here’s a look forward at what’s getting us excited.

Camila Cabello’s self-titled debut album is released next Friday (12th) and after her monster No 1 hit ‘Havana’ expectations are high. Will she continue her reign of slinky Cuban R&B Pop and what do Fifth Harmony think of all this?!

Craig David’s seventh album The Time is Now drops on 26th January and puts UK R&B front and centre. After his wonderful feature on KAYTRANADA’S ‘Got It Good’ we’re looking forward to Craig’s second collab with KAYTRA and GoldLink.

Cardi B – TBA. What we do know is that after the Major success of ‘Bodak Yellow’ her album will have BIG Trap beats and take inspiration from her Trinidadian and Dominican roots via Spanish and Reggae Rap vibes.

Justin Timberlake – Man of the Woods. Will drop 2nd February and first single ‘Filthy’(!) is out now. We’re hoping the album will be a grown ‘Justified’ featuring Timbaland and The Neptune’s. Hmmm will Janet Jackson appear at his upcoming Super Bowl performance though?

Kylie Minogue – TBA. She’s a legend and we love putting lesser known ‘Heart Beat Rock’ and ‘Shocked’ in our mix 😊. Her 14th album arrives in the next few months and was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, so maybe we can expect some serious guitar licks amongst the Pop swagger.

Christina Aguilera – TBA. It’s been confirmed that she’s working with Anderson. Paak and Mark Ronson in addition to Janelle Monáe, Noah ‘40’ Shebib, Thundercat and Lianne La Havas. Quite an A-team and with Xtina’s vocals firing on all cylinders this could be so great!

Kayne West – Turbo Grafx 16 (TBA). Allegedly the album title and each track will be inspired by video games. This would be so cool and Kanye’s production credentials are limitless so as epic as ‘Fade’ is if he has a bit more fun than on Pablo that can only be good thing.
