Just two weeks to go until The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe opens at West Yorkshire Playhouse
In less than two weeks, the multi-talented cast of The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe will bring C.S. Lewis’ classic tale of the magical land of Narnia to life at West Yorkshire Playhouse.
New rehearsal images give a first glimpse of Aslan, the extraordinary puppet lion still in its early stages of construction, taking on the evil White Witch played by ITV’s My Parents are Aliens actor Carla Mendonça. Designed by Puppetry Director Craig Leo (War Horse, West End), the puppets, which range from small hand-operated mice to larger structures manipulated by seven actors such as Aslan, are under construction by a specialist team in the Playhouse’s workshop.
The Playhouse’s Quarry Theatre is currently undergoing a dramatic transformation into a theatre in the round, ready for audiences to discover for the first time on Wednesday 29 November.
Telling the well-loved tale of four wartime evacuees who discover a magical kingdom through the back of a wardrobe, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe is directed by Sally Cookson (Peter Pan and Jane Eyre, National Theatre), designed by Rae Smith (War Horse, National Theatre) and is a West Yorkshire Playhouse, Elliott & Harper Productions and Catherine Schreiber co-production.
