LGBT History Month: Club Nights & Socials

Scissors Launch Party: 1st February

What started as a tongue-in-cheek idea from the Equality and Diversity Officer, Emma Healey, Scissors is Leeds University Union's first women-centred queer dance party.

It’s no secret that too often the LGBTQ+ scene focuses on white, gay, slim, and able-bodied men; We aim to offset this balance creating a space where everyone can feel free to be themselves and dance.

Scissors is open to people of all genders, however we aim to celebrate the women, non-binary and femmes in the LGBTQ+ community first and foremost.

With the help of Girls That Gig, we'll be putting togehter a female line up, details of which will be released very soon.

This event is the launch part for LGBTQ+ History Month within Leeds University, for more details check it out on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1662489187382445/

Love Muscle Gay Disco - Saturday 18th February

Location: Wharf Chambers, 23-25 Wharf Street, LS2 7EQ

Time: 23:00pm - 05:00am

"Massive thanks to the Brudenell Groove and Come Thru crew for the NYE celebrations, and an even bigger thanks to man like Wes Baggaley for smashing our festive fist! Needless to say we intend to start the year how we closed it out!

First up to the oche is another artist who's been tearing up the Panaroma Bar dance floor of late...

Alinka learned her trade as a DJ through her residency at Chicago's legendary Smart Bar. Warming up for Justin Long at his .Dotbleep parties, she received a serious education in house music, performing to a notoriously hard-to-please crowd.

It was through this that she met our most talked-about recent guest (and Love Muscle heart throb) Shaun J. Wright! Since then, the pair started the record label Twirl!, put out some exceptional remixes and produced some of our favourite house records of the last year.

She was recently signed, along with Shaun, to Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon's label Classic, finding time also to release on Crosstown Rebels and cause a serious stir on Europe's most highly-regarded dancefloors since her move to Berlin.

Feb is also LGBT history month... We'll be taking over LSR radio at some point to showcase the origins and importance of LGBT nightlife scene's and their soundtracks so keep an ear to the ground for that.

We are starting 2017 as we mean to go on!"
