New Captain of the Leeds Hunters shares a few words
"A year of Brexit, Trump and far too many celebrity deaths than you could shake a stick at, you would be forgiven if you were to turn around and shout baa hum bug to 2016 as it draws to a close. But all is not lost, the Olympics in Rio had Team GB finishing 2nd in the medals table, Leeds Pride had its biggest event yet with the 10th-anniversary party and double denim is back in fashion!
However, most importantly it has been the year that gave birth to The Leeds Hunters RUFC. Launching in November as the new inclusive rugby team for Yorkshire, based in Leeds. The team have been training each Saturday morning at 10am in Roundhay park. With support and coaching from the RFU, and 20+ at each session it really has hit the ground running.
So if you are looking to try something completely new, you have not played for a few years or are a former pro, then come and have a look. Rugby is an inclusive family and aside from getting fit and learning new skills, you will be making new friends and joining something special. With one new player saying “it's honestly been one of the most enjoyable and inclusive sports teams I've been on, I've felt like I've fitted straight in even as the youngest”.
And with Blacks Solicitors and The Viaduct Showbar coming on board as sponsors, the future of inclusive rugby in Yorkshire is looking very bright.
Merry Christmas to all"
