Our Very Own Makes History!
We are delighted and excited to announce that the New Penny Pub has been awarded English Heritage status, for it's extensive support and services to the LGBT* community in Leeds over the last six decades.
Unveiled on Friday 21st October, members of the community gathered outside of the venue to witness Leeds City Council deputy leader James Lewis unveil the plaque.
The New Penny is the longest running gay bar in the country, and started out in 1953 called the Hope Anchor. Since a change of ownership in 1982, it can be said that the pub has become one of the most popular gay venues in Leeds.
