April Music Reviews! 🎶

Lady Gaga conquered Coachella and returns with The Cure which oddly isn’t on her most recent album Joanna. Is this a new direction heralding another new album? Who knows but it has some finger click’s like the Whisper Song (NSFW listening) on the verses before going into a full-on pop chorus. Fans of Born This Way or Bad Romance may find themselves wanting more though. 7/10

Following Be The One’s Top Ten success Dua Lipa returns with Lost In Your Light featuring hot boi Miguel. The track has a cool electro, trap, pop vibe with a sing along chorus that’ll sound good in the Summer sun, if we get any that is! 7.5/10

Jennifer Hudson, Remember Me is like her debut single Spotlight in its minimal beat and strong vocals. After Jen’s success with The Voice winner Mo Adeniran her new album is set for a late 2017/2018 drop and will be a colab with the legendary Clive Davis & La Reid. I’d like to hear Jen do something just a bit more edgy but this is a solid return. 7/10

Another month another new Sean Paul song! His output is admirable and after going in a more pop direction lately he’s gone back to his Jamaican Dancehall roots with Phone Flash a full on shut the Carnival down lock off riddim. Whilst it won’t win awards for lyrical content, it will make you dance, hard. 7.5/10

Produced by Mike Will Made It who did ‘Formation’ Kendrick Lamar returns with Humble which is the first track taken from his fourth album DAMN out now. To me this seems to be all about the beat and I’ve seen some excellent dance routines to go with it. The lyrics are {ahem} straight forward and a rough & ready way to tell someone to have some modesty which may be needed 😉. 7.5/10

Underground star Shy FX’s new single We Just Don’t Care was recently MistaJam’s BBC1xtra Jam Hot and I can see why. It features the effervescently soulful vocals of Shingai from the Noisettes (they were cool, remember them?) and is an unashamed pop track at heart.  I’m getting a bit of Motown in the hooks and Basement Jaxx madness in the beats my favourite part is at 1 minute 20 secs when it goes into first gear, it’s all over far too quickly! Fabulous. 8.5/10

Be LGBTQ, R’n’B With Edges returns to The Loft above Queens Court on Thursday 1st June 201710pm – 3am. See you there.
